Sookie Stackhouse
The Light Who Loves the Dark
Tara: What the hell's wrong with you?
Jessica: I ate four faerie girls, I'm so f-cked up.
-------------------------------------------
There's a town consensus about what kind of girl I am, they call me a danger whore.

Sookie and Jason Stackhouse, two main characters in TrueBlood, were raised by their Gran, Adele Stackhouse, who gets murdered towards the end of Season one. Gran was a very religious, accepting and loving character on the show and Sooky, who was raised by her Gran, is the same way. Sookie says in Season one is "I don't think Jesus would mind if someone was a vampire". Her acceptance allows her to keep an open mind, allowing her to get through some difficult times,
like her Gran's death.
In Trueblood, vampires are seen as creatures of the night while fairies are creatures of the light. Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) is a fairy. Sookie also has the ability to read the minds of others, but has learned to block out the voices over time. All Fairies produce a "light'" that allows protection from vampires. Unfortunately, the blood of the fairy is also irresistible to vampires with its tempting smell and rewards. The blood of a fae is the ultimate symbol of good and their blood, when consumed, allows vampires to walk in the sun for a short period of time, making fairies the ultimate prey of vampires. Like any good vampire series, blood is a predominant theme. Consuming blood as a ritual creates a good parallel to familiar themes in Christianity and religion. For example, the Last Supper where Jesus's followers symbolically consume the body and blood of Christ.
Despite her tasty blood, Sookie has many relationships both romantic and non romantic with vampires. It's interesting to see these relationships progress throughout the seasons despite the constant target that hangs above Sookie's head. For example, Sookie invites Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) into her home and life, even though he could kill her with one bite. Sookie stays very true to her faith through all her relationships, often changing the evil in vampires to good. For example, through Sookie's long relationship with Bill, Bon Temp's first vampire, Bill's humanity is reveled. The same happens with Eric (Alexander Skarsgard), who also has a relationship with Sookie in Season 4. Despite the frequent murders in Bon Temps, Sookie always worries about what is morally right and wrong and often prays to god. She is constantly in danger, but always manages to make the right decisions and influence those around her to often do the same.
